Dizengof Center, one of the oldest shopping and entertainment centers in Israel, opened its doors to the public in 1977. The Center is named after Meir Dizengof, the first Mayor of Tel Aviv, and is the joint brainchild of the late Aryeh Piltz, the late Avraham Piltz and Shmuel Flato Sharon. It was constructed in the beating heart of Tel Aviv, at the corner of Dizengof Street and King George Street. The first store to open its doors for business in 1977 was Hamashbir.
Dizengof Center was designed to be a direct extension of the fashionable Dizengof Street. The vision of the architects, Aliza Toledo and Yitzchak Yashar, who were awarded the Rokach Prize for the design of the building, was to craft a sensation of a “street within a street”. The complex was designed as a differentiated and differentiating urban structure and, in contrast, as a direct extension of the surrounding streets, and this is what led to its spiral shape, sloping floors and the stores and restaurants being spread out almost haphazardly and not concentrated into clusters of like – type stores. This unique structure gives the visitor a sense of taking a casual stroll along air conditioned streets. But should you be in a hurry to reach your destination, you can do so easily by means of the navigation app – EasyDizi.
The location of the Center in the heart of the city, the unique urban structure and the range of stores attracts a plethora of visitors daily: Young and old, eccentric and intriguing and all are welcome. Even four legged creatures are catered for – the Center is Pet Friendly and man’s best friend is cordially invited to join you when visiting – just don’t forget a leash and a muzzle.
About 40,000 people visit the Dizengof Center stores daily, amounting to almost a million visitors per month! Every visitor will find precisely what he or she is looking for at the Center: Fashion stores, computers, musical instruments and household utensils, health stores, pharma drug stores and much more.
The Center is also a center of entertainment and boasts cinemas, book and music stores, playground areas for children, a gym and even a swimming pool open around the clock. Alongside recognized brand flagship stores you will find boutiques owned by young designers, and unique stores not prevalent at other shopping malls, such as a comic book store, a wig store and piercing and tattoo parlors.
A vibrant marketplace is set up inside the Center every Thursday and Friday: The Designers’ Boutique, where you can find original clothes and accessories made by young and promising Israeli designers, and a Food Market with fresh, homemade food stalls, providing meals to be eaten on the spot or taken home for later enjoyment. The Gallery is situated on the ground floor of the Center, which displays rolling exhibitions of works of art produced by young local artists who are dipping their toes into the artistic world for the first time, as well as non profit associations and organizations. The Center also puts on performances, lectures, shows for children and other activities in conjunction with the various stores housed in the Center.
At Dizengof Center, shopping and protecting the environment go hand in glove. The Center Management Team has unfurled the banner of the value of community involvement, social openness and sustainability. We invest in the community and believe in fair employment practices and so all security and cleaning and maintenance personnel employed at the Center are employed directly by the Center. We run collection points for electronic waste and streamline the energy consumption at the building. Thanks to the broad range of activities that we carry out, we won the “Green Globe” prize for 2015, awarded by the Life and Environment Organization – the umbrella organization of the environmental protection organizations in Israel.
All these have made Dizengof Center into a young, dynamic and vibrant shopping center, combining ease and convenience and a fertile patch for creativity, for self expression and for social openness.
We are waiting for you.
